Youth Volunteer Initiative

 

Our YVI is a unique volunteer program geared towards youth 14-19 years of age. This initiative encourages youth to gain new skills and experiences in a setting like no other. Youth that are accepted into the programs will engage directly with our client population providing recreation planning, activity engagement and companionship.

Our youth volunteer programs have an impact on both our youth volunteers, as well as our client population. While our youth gain self-confidence, patience and greater understanding of complex medical needs, our clients benefit from having more access to recreational activities and one-on-one time with peers.

YVI is comprised of three programs that run throughout the year.  Take note of the application deadlines below. 

 

Weekend Peer Program
4 hours/week, September – June
Mon. – Fri.
Application deadline: August 15

 

March Break Intensive
40 hours, March
Mon. – Fri.
Application deadline: February 5

 

YSVI (Youth Summer Volunteer Initiative)
160 hours, July or August
Mon. – Fri.
Application deadline: May 15

 

Submission of an application, statement of intent and two letters of reference by the program deadline are required to be considered.

The Darling Home for Kids is a state-of-the-art facility set on 77-acres of property in rural Milton. Transportation should not be a barrier to applying; please note that transportation bursaries are available. Indicate your need in your application.
