Father-Daughter Duo Bakes up a Storm at DHK!

Hi, we are Ava and Dave Badovinac.  We love volunteering at The Darling Home for Kids for many reasons.  We love putting smiles on other people’s faces, meeting new people (like the kids that stay there) and spending time together!  We also feel it is important to volunteer because we are very lucky to be Canadian and to be healthy, so this is how we show we are thankful.  Our favourite things to do are grocery shopping for the Home, baking for the kids, staff and other volunteers, and playing with the kids that are at the Home.  Our favourite thing to bake is chocolate chip banana muffins.  We even included the recipe!  Well…  we added the chocolate chips!  Thank you to The Darling Home for Kids and to Erin for letting us volunteer.

Dave & Ava’s Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

3 large bananas, mashed

¾ cup white sugar

1 egg

1/3 cup butter, melted

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat muffin pans with non-stick spray, or use paper liners.
  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
  3. Combine bananas, sugar, egg and melted butter in a large bowl.  Fold in flour mixture, and mix until smooth.  Add in your chocolate chips and combine.
  4. Scoop into muffin pans.
  5. Bake in preheated oven.  Mini muffins for 10-15 minutes or large muffins for 25-30 muffins.  Muffins will spring back when lightly tapped and/or a toothpick will come out clean!
  6. Eat & Enjoy!
