A Beautiful Day, a Round of Golf, and a Worthwhile Cause

The skies were clear and the sun was shining as over 100 golfers teed off in support of The Darling Home for Kids at the 15th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Thursday, July 12th!

Participants took to the Masters Course at Lionhead Golf & Country Club for a round of golf with friends, with proceeds supporting medically fragile and technology dependent children and their families in the community. The tournament was a complete success, netting over $40,000 for The Darling Home for Kids!

Following a pleasurable afternoon on course, with many specialty holes including two Hole-in-One contests, Beat the “Pro” and putting contests, guests enjoyed a few well deserved cocktails, a sumptuous buffet dinner, and had the opportunity to peruse the silent auction of fabulous items.Congratulations were in order for the first place foursome from K-G Spray Pak Inc., which included golfers John Ferring, Derrick Sutton, Wal Blatter and Maurice Lobreau. Second and third went to Cliff Barron’s foursome, and another foursome from K-G Spray Pak Inc. respectively. Prizes were also awarded to the Putting Contest, Beat the “Pro”, Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive winners.

The success of this annual event is thanks to the support of all sponsors, participants, donors and volunteers – with special mention to the Silver sponsors: The Darling/Eagen Family and Dufferin Aggregates. We would also like to thank our Bronze sponsors, Darling sponsors, Milestone sponsors, individual golfers, and silent auction and prize donors for their amazing contributions to this important fundraising event. All proceeds are being directed towards the core programs and services offered at The Darling Home for Kids. From therapeutic programs which include recreation therapy, music therapy, pet therapy, Snoezelen (multisensory) therapy, and hydrotherapy, to the respite and palliative care programs.

Annual fundraising events such as the golf tournament are essential in helping to provide care where care is needed for special children and their families.Events of this size often take many months to plan and coordinate, and without the incredible efforts of the 2012 Golf Committee, this day would not have been possible. Special thanks are extended to Janice Vancso (Chair), Wendy Perley (Vice Chair), Greg Carmichael, Yvonne Davies, Henry Franc, Rodney Hall, Ashley Miller, Sean Power, Todd Stewart, and Bob Vancso. In addition, the support of tournament day volunteers, including the talented emcee, Bob Ryan, ensured a memorable and enjoyable day for everyone.Thank you again to all generous supporters and contributors for helping to make a difference in the lives of children and families at The Darling Home for Kids!
