We are happy to announce that we have completed the construction of our expansion of The Darling Home for Kids and we celebrated our Grand Opening of Phase II in September 2009.

It is thanks to the contributions of so many individuals, foundations, organizations and businesses that we were able to reach this incredible milestone, which will leave a profound mark on the legacy of The Darling Home for Kids. Thank you to everyone who contributed to our fundraising efforts.

Our Phase II construction included the addition of our 3 new bedrooms that can accommodate 6 children for overnight care. These new rooms increase our overnight capacity to 12 children. Our new space also includes our family room which has plenty of space for our children and parents to sit by the fireplace, read stories and enjoy movie nights. We have also created a Snoezelen Room, which is a multi-sensory space that is designed to stimulate all five senses. This magical room is filled with bubble tubes, fibre optic lights, mirrors and textures, and is a place of pure joy for our children.

As part of our Phase II construction we also built a multi-purpose room which is a space for meetings, counselling families, and creating artistic masterpieces. Our newly expanded kitchen is a bakers dream with plenty of space for preparing food and gathering for meal times. There is even a special pull out tray in the island where the kids can participate in baking!

These new areas complete our Home and provide the space that we need for our many programs and services. We are now able to provide an oasis of comfort and joy to additional children and families in need and we can now do that in a place that feels like home.

We would like to express a warm thank you to our construction partner, PCL Constructors Canada Inc. who has demonstrated their continued commitment to help our children and families through their various volunteer efforts, success in soliciting gifts-in-kind from the construction industry and financial support of our capital campaign and fundraising efforts. We are thrilled with the completion of our Home and know that we could not have accomplished this milestone without their incredible generosity and hard work.

A warm thank you also goes out to the dedicated members of our construction committee including Shevawn Adams (Inner Dimension Design Associates), Tom Finan (PMX Inc.), Chris Gower (PCL Constructors), Jason Pelaccia (PCL Constructors) and Tony Santini (Red Studio Architects Inc.)

With the continued commitment of our donors and friends, in 2010 we will be able to raise the remaining funds we need to furnish and outfit our newly completed Home. If you are interested in helping us to furnish our new space so that we can make our house a home, please contact Jennifer Young at 905-878-7673 ext 4.
